How to Market Your Book & Plan an Author Event

Saturday, April 11, 10 am to 3:00 pm

Location:  Hera Hub Carlsbad, 5205 Avenida Encinas, Suite A, Carlsbad, CA 92008

Morning Session:

Congratulations, You’re an Author! Now How Do You Find Readers?

After years of dreaming, writing, revising, and agonizing, your dream has come true! Your book is finally published. Yikes! Time to market, right? Wrong! Successful authors (with and without big publishers) think about marketing as they are drafting their book. In this session we will discuss opportunities for you to connect with potential readers including:

  • Book title and cover design
  • Author photos and what to consider
  • Amazon Author Central
  • Getting reviews: to pay or not to pay?
  • Goodreads and social media

For some writers it is a very difficult transition to think like a marketer. Learn strategies that are more effective, and less annoying, than constantly tweeting, “Buy my book!”

Presenter:  L.C. Scott is the founder of eFrog Press, a Carlsbad-based company that provides publishing services for authors. A published author herself, she has taught at the high school and university level, worked as a freelance writer, and has a doctorate in educational leadership. She enjoys supporting authors through their book publishing journey and connecting them with professionals along the way.

Lunch Included:  Enjoy a healthy, delicious lunch while networking with other writers.

Afternoon Session:

When is the Best Time to Plan Your Book Event? Now!

You would never dream of building a house without first laying a solid foundation. Yet, counter-intuitively, that’s precisely what most authors do. They build their book and lack a solid base to support it. Learn what steps you can take NOW, whether your book is finished or not, to lay the foundation for successful book events upon publication.

Presenter: Susan McBeth, founder of Adventures by the Book, has almost a decade of experience working with authors, publishers, publicists, agents, and readers. She is also the founder of Authorpreneurs, offering a host of support services and events to help authors market and promote their books. Susan is a contributor to Everyday Book Marketing, and has been featured on NBC San Diego, KPBS, The San Diego Union-Tribune, San Diego Magazine, and Women’s Radio.
